What can mindfulness do for you?

The world we live in has never so stressful. More technology, multi-tasking, pressures on our time and skills have made us people living on auto-pilot, trying to repress emotions and sensations facing difficult situations and ultimately feeling overwhelmed. We are disconnected and live far too much in our head.

This is where mindfulness comes in. It helps us to be more present, tap into energy we already have inside but sometimes we are struggling to find and bring calm and inner-peace into our inner-world. From teaching centuries old, we are learning to know our mind (let’s call this the noticing or awareness phase), training our mind (putting in practice mindful methods to live in the moment with awareness) and free the mind (letting go of our attachments  to unhelpful beliefs or biases, opinions and judgments and learning to just be (responsive), bringing back choice rather than knee-jerk reactions). Mindfulness brings balance and harmony between human being and their environment. Mindfulness can be practiced by anyone, from any age, background or spiritual beliefs.

Mindful living is putting into practice the pillars of mindfulness (awareness, patience, non-judging, non-striving, beginner’s mind and letting to only name a few) to every aspect of our life may it be personal or professional. We can apply them to communication, relationships, health, our relationship with ourselves and others… the list is long but the simple fact is, it can apply to everything we do and bring us relief and calm. To me, mindfulness is more than sitting on a cushion and meditating. It is mindful movement, eating, talking, feeling, self-care… it is mindful, fully conscious and aware. It can be practised at home, at work, outdoors, when doing nothing or when completing an activity. You can at any moment check in, breathe and feel the here and now.
